KikuX Mermaid Reader

"Isn't cold in there?" a Japanese boy asked as he looked down towards you in the murky and thankfully opaque lake water.

"I'm used to it..." you sigh sadly, you would never let anyone see what was underneath the surface.

"I still-r don't get why you rike it so much in there." He wondered out loud.

You giggled; you loved how he had trouble saying his 'l's.

"How long can you stay?" you ask gazing up at the full moon, this is what normally happened, Kiku would escape the palace walls as well as his over controlling parents: of course they had a reason to protect the heir to the throne.

"I rleft while my mother and father were asrleep, maybe an hour or two?" he asked himself as he two looked up at the full moon.

"______-san?" Kiku asked, interrupting the comfortable silence.

"Yes, kiku?" you asked back as you turned to look at the brown eyed boy sitting on the docks.

"Do you speak to anyone erlse?" he asked looking down at his lap nervously.

"Well... sure I do, I speak to my friends and family..." You laugh nervously, truth be told, you had no family or friends; you were stuck there in the lake for as long as you could remember.

"Oh..." he sighed.

You were about to ask what was wrong, but suddenly a sharp pain filled the lower part of your body... you looked down into the water, only to see a black-crimson liquid floating to the surface.

"_______-san!" Kiku shouted as he saw the blood.

A whistling sound cut through the foggy air, another spot of pain appeared in your shoulder, kiku watched as a sickly crimson rose appeared, even through your hair the red liquid found it's way through.

"________-san, rlet me herlp you out of the water." He shouted in sadness , you quickly found out it wasn't a question, it was a statement.

He leaned down slowly lodging his arms under yours, struggling to pull you up out the water, you would have helped...but your scaly tail was weak.

Kiku watched in shock as skin soon turned to scales.

"Kiku..."

You watched as some men came out of the woodland area surrounding the serene lake, from what the men were dressed like you suspected they were palace guards.

Black surrounded your vision.

You awoke to be surrounded by water, you were on the bottom of what didn't seem to be to the lake bed you usually slept on, this felt different it was hard and solid; it didn't have any mud on it.

You opened you eyes and rubbed them, that's funny...you normally felt the current on your tail or the mud on the side of your face.

You looked around with your vision now clear, noticing that the water was much, much clearer.

And there was fish last time you checked.

A dull knocking clouded your senses, you turn your head to the side, squinting to see a blurred outline of a young boy with short black hair.

Kiku.

You smile and swim up to the surface, only to see that you were in fact inside a building, and supporting the water that surrounded your scaly body was a wall of glass.

"Kiku... are you there?" you whispered.

Kiku slowly ascended the metal stairs that reached the top of your tank.

"Where am I?" you ask with a slight frown on your face, Kiku didn't look happy.

"Why didn't you tell me?" he mumbled in his quiet but angry voice.

"Tell you what?" you didn't see the problem, sure you kept the fact that you were a mermaid away from him but it was for the best.

"The fact that you are harlf fish." He turned his heavy gaze on the twisting scaly tail in the water.

"I-I don't see the problem...you never asked if I had legs, Kiku." You scowled a little, you were known as a mermaid, not just 'half fish'.

"So, I didn't even know that things like you existed." He said, with a look of regret as soon as the words came out of his mouth.

"Things like me... wow what kind of a friend are you?!" you exclaimed swimming backwards so you were away from KIku.

"No, _-_______san I didn't mean it rlike that." He apologised reaching out to you.

"Sorry if I don't have two legs like you do, or lungs or even 'skin', I'am happy with what I am." You scream as you dived under water away from the Japanese prince, hoping that he won't see the tears you shed.

Kiku sighed as he watched you as your body shake, 'great Kiku, you made her cry...'
"I'm sorry _______" he whispered as he wondered through the palace trying to find something that will cheer you up.
